STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. - The Men’s NAIA Bowling National Championships continued on Friday in the Detroit area, as eight teams took center stage to kick off the day's team competition, and another four teams eagerly awaited their opponents for the elimination round after the second round concluded.
The second round began with a five-game Milligan (Tenn.) win over St. Francis (Ill.), and SCAD Savannah (Ga.) topped Kansas Wesleyan in six. Concordia (Mich.) won a battle of Wolverine Hoosier teams, over Lawrence Tech (Mich.), and the final second-round matchup saw Marian (Ind.) edge Indiana Tech in seven.
Lawrence Tech kicked things off in the first round of the elimination bracket with a 4-0 sweep over Culver-Stockton (Mo.), and St. Francis would beat Hastings in 4-1, while Kansas Wesleyan beat Cumberland (Tenn.) in an intense match, 4-3. The final matchup of the first round in the elimination bracket saw Pikeville (Ky.) pull out a thriller against Indiana Tech in seven, setting up a second-round matchup against Lawrence Tech, on the other side of St. Francis and Kansas Wesleyan.
In the fourth round of the winner’s bracket, Marian triumphed over Concordia (Mich.) with a 4-1 victory to advance to the next round, while SCAD Savannah defeated Milligan in a thrilling seven-game series to move on and face Marian for a spot in Saturday’s championship round. In the elimination bracket, Kansas Wesleyan emerged victorious over St. Francis, while Pikeville defeated Lawrence Tech and advanced to the next round to meet Milligan.
In round five, Concordia (Mich.) swept Kansas Wesleyan, and Marian defeated SCAD Savannah, securing its place in Saturday’s championship match. Milligan bested Pikeville 4-2 to move on to the sixth round.
In the final matchup of day two, Concordia (Mich.) narrowly defeated Milligan 4-3 in a best-of-seven series to advance to the seventh round to meet SCAD Savannah.
The winner of this match will earn a spot in the championship match against Marian. Round seven, the semifinal round, will kick off at 8 a.m., Eastern Time, with the men’s championship scheduled for 2 p.m., Eastern.
