Oklahoma City Continues to Lead, Friends Second at NAIA Men's Golf National Championship
SILVIS, Ill. -- Oklahoma City held on to lead, while Friends (Kan.) inched closer following the third round of the 74th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship today to take the team lead at TPC Deere Run.
The Stars sit atop the team leaderboard at 860 (290-278-292), followed by the Falcons at 866 (292-284-290). Hastings (Neb.) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) are tied for third with a three-round total of 872.
The final round is set for Friday, beginning at 8 a.m. CT, with the leaders starting at 9:40 a.m. CT.
The final grouping of Oklahoma City, Friends, and Lindsey Wilson all exchanged momentum throughout the round. Although the Stars never surrendered the lead, the Falcons and the Blue Raiders each cut the deficit to four shots at different segments of the round.
Friends provided the best third-round finish of the grouping, playing the final five holes in 2-under par. The Falcons made up four shots over Oklahoma City and 11 shots over Lindsey Wilson during the stretch.
While the leaders were battling, Hastings and Reinhardt (Ga.) provided the top team rounds of the day.
Hastings shot 3-over par 283 to jump six spots up the leaderboard, while Reinhardt fired the team round of the day with a 2-over par 282 to leap seven places into eighth.
Individually, Marian's (Ind.) Lane Zedrick took over the lead after his second straight 1-under par 69. He owns a one-shot lead heading into Friday's final round after carding a three-round total of 209 (71-69-69).
Oklahoma City's Carter Ray (68-70-72) and Christian Yanovitch (71-69-70) are tied for second at even-par 210.
Seven players are within three shots of the lead with 18 holes remaining in the championship.
One of the five is Hastings' Taiki Sugawara, who shot a tournament low four-under par 66 today. He carded five birdies and just one bogey to surge into a tie for fifth place.
