William Penn (Iowa) outlasts Reinhardt (Ga.) in double-overtime thriller at Decatur
DECATUR, Ala. - [Watch On-Demand] William Penn (Iowa) survived a late rally from Reinhardt (Ga.) and earned a 12-11 double-overtime victory Tuesday afternoon at the Jack Allen Complex in the quarterfinals of the 2026 NAIA Men’s Lacrosse National Championship.
Trailing 4-1 after the first quarter, WPU (13-3) responded by outscoring RU 10-1 across the second and third periods to build an 11-5 advantage entering the fourth. The Reinhardt Eagles (9-5) responded with six unanswered goals in the final quarter to force overtime before the Statesmen secured the win at the 2:51 mark of the second overtime period on Kenny Bohney’s game-winning goal off an assist from Matt Scott.
Reinhardt opened quickly behind Luke Greer, who scored three times in the first 11:47 as the Eagles built an early three-goal lead. William Penn settled into the game and erased the deficit, tying the contest 5-5 at halftime behind goals from Harley Williams, Kenny Bohney, Matt Scott, and Lucas Cox.
The Statesmen took control in the third quarter with six unanswered goals. Bohney led the offensive surge, while a goal with one second remaining in the period extended the lead to 11-5 entering the fourth. Reinhardt answered with a rally of its own, scoring six consecutive goals to even the score at 11-11 with 1:48 remaining. Reid McDowell and Greer helped lead the comeback effort.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first overtime period before William Penn broke through in the second extra session. Scott found Bohney for the decisive goal with 2:51 remaining in double overtime.
