Grand View (Iowa) Upends No. 1 Bethel (Tenn.) to Earn Men's Soccer's First Quarterfinal Spot

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Pietro Piacenza scored unassisted to close the 12th minute, and the Grand View (Iowa) defense did the rest, as the Vikings upset top-seeded Bethel (Tenn.) in the 2025 NAIA Men's Soccer national championship Round of 16, in Orange Beach, Ala.

Piacenca gathered a long goal kick from Luis Helm, stopping inside the top corner of the 18-yard box before lofting a shot over the head and out-stretched arm of Bethel keeper Diego Camargo, a lead that would stick from just outside 33 minutes remaining in the first half through the final 78 minutes.

Helm secured the win for the Vikings, who improved to 16-4-3, gathering four saves and collecting the game's final ball, punting it high into the air with seven seconds remaining to run out the clock.

Camargo also had four saves for Bethel, as the Wildcats ended their season at 13-3-2. Bethel outshot Grand View 15-7, but GVU held a 5-4 shots-on-goal edge.

The Vikings move on to Thursday's quarterfinal game, at 10 a.m. CT, taking on the winner of Cumberlands (Tenn.) and Georgia Gwinnett.
