MidAmerica Nazarene Solidifies Semifinals Spot in 3-1 Decision Over William Penn

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) became the third team to advance to the semifinals of the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship on Thursday night with a 3-1 decision over William Penn (Iowa).

The Pioneers struck early when midfielder Jeremie Pelade finished off an assist from Jaxon Slaven just 7:56 into the match to take a 1-0 lead. Both teams continued to generate multiple scoring opportunities, as MidAmerica Nazarene held a close 5-4 edge in shots after the first period.

The second half proved decisive as the Pioneers netted their second goal of the contest at 79:12 when Slaven connected on a pass from Antonio Mugica to make it 2-0. William Penn attempted to stay within reach and answered quickly, as Matias Meijide converted a penalty kick at 81:17 to cut the deficit to 2-1.

MidAmerica Nazarene responded with composure, and just over six minutes later, Mugica sealed the win, finishing a play set up by Pelade and Caleb Brueckner for a 3-1 final score. The Statesmen outshot the Pioneers 13-9 and recorded six corner kicks compared to the Pioneers' three.

Pelade, Slaven, and Mugica lead the offensive charge for MidAmerica Nazarene, as the team showed resilience, creating chances in the second half and bouncing right back after the Statesmen's penalty conversion.

Ryan Walsh-Rowe managed two saves for William Penn, while Tobias Stirl totaled three.

MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) will return to play on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 4 p.m. against the winner of the WVU Tech (W.Va) and Indiana Tech match.
