Vikings Punch Ticket to Championship Match after 1-0 Decision Over Patriots

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Grand View (Iowa) advanced to the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship match on Monday afternoon with a 1–0 decision over Cumberlands (Ky.), powered by a strong defensive effort and a decisive second-half strike.

After a balanced opening 45 minutes, the Vikings began to create more sustained pressure once play resumed, and their momentum paid off less than five minutes into the half.

Herman Furumo delivered the breakthrough in the 50th minute, finishing a setup from Pietro Piacenza and Justin Figaroa to put Grand View in front.

From there, the Vikings controlled the pace and limited Cumberlands’ looks at the goal, holding the Patriots to seven total shots across the full 90 minutes, while Grand View mustered 13.

Vikings' goalkeeper Luis Helm made two saves to secure the shutout, anchoring a back line that remained steady throughout the match.

Cumberlands’ keeper Javiero Izquierdo ended the match with three saves and faced nine shots in the second half, 13 total for the contest. The Patriots edged the Vikings in corners, 8-5.

Grand View closed out the match with discipline and booked their spot in Monday’s national title game. They will return to play on Monday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. against the winner of MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) and WVU Tech (W.Va).
