Day One of the 2025 U.S. Marines NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship

GAINESVILLE, Fla. [RESULTS] - The first day of the 2025 U.S. Marines NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship opened with the multi events and finished with two national champions at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center.

  • Heptathlon Highlights:

    • Nigel Steenwinkel of Cumberlands (Ky.) won the 60m dash with a 6.97s finish, securing.
    • Robert Atwater of Midland (Neb.) showcased his versatility, winning the long jump with a leap of 7.28m and later excelled in the high jump, clearing 2.12m. Atwater currently leads the field with 3,141 points. 
    • Holde Van Poppel of Siena Heights (Mich.) claimed the shot put with a throw of 13.93m.
    • The heptathlon will close out on Friday with only the 60m hurdles and pole vault events remaining. 
  • Triple Jump Final:

    • Ronaldo Andrews of William Carey (Miss.) took the title with a 15.71m jump. His mark was a new personal best that he set just a couple of weeks ago at the Southern States Conference Indoor Championship.
    • Tremaine Browne of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) finished closely behind at 15.21m and extending his PR by .2.
  • High Jump Final:

    • Weston Means of Carroll (Mont.) cleared 2.15m on the first attempt to win and set a new PR. 
    • Jacob Gillies of Evangel (Mo.) also reached 2.15m, but on the third attempt, finishing second with a new PR.
    • Robert Atwater (Midland) placed third with 2.12m finishing just .03 behind the top two finishers. 

The events that ran their preliminary races today were 3,000m race walk, 5,000m, 3,200m relay, 1,600m relay and distance medley relay. 

After finishing two scoring events, Midland (Neb.) holds the top spot while Carroll (Mont.) and William Carey (Miss.) follow in second place. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Evangel (Mo.) round out the Top 5 at four and five respectively. 

Competition at the 2025 U.S. Marines NAIA Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship continues on Friday, February 28 at 10 a.m. ET with the heptathlon.
