Tavon Davis Notches Two "A" Standards for Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Cumberlands freshman Tavon Davis of Utica, Mississippi, delivered a statement weekend on the indoor track circuit to earn Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors. Competing at UAB against deep, high-level fields, Davis put together back-to-back victories while also posting two NAIA-leading caliber marks.
Davis opened the weekend at the UAB Green and Gold Invite on February 6 in the 400 meters and was untouchable from the gun. In a field of 37 athletes, he won the event in 47.26, a performance that met the “A” standard and now stands as the second-fastest 400-meter time in the NAIA this season.
The very next day at the UAB Invite on February 7, Davis returned to the track for the 600 meters and again rose to the occasion. Facing 34 competitors, he claimed another win, stopping the clock at 1:18.16 to hit an “A” standard once more. That 600-meter result currently ranks first in the NAIA this year.
The Patriots will compete at the Music City Challenge on February 13.
