Historic Week Leads Tavon Davis to Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Tavon Davis of Cumberlands (Ky.) has been named the NAIA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after delivering a historic performance at NC State’s Raleigh Relays. The junior from Utica, Mississippi, put together a two-day stretch that not only rewrote his program’s record book but also produced the top NAIA marks in two marquee events.
Davis’ weekend was highlighted by a breakthrough victory in the 400 meters on March 27, when he won a 127-athlete field in 45.75 seconds. The performance set a new Cumberlands program record in the event and stands as the fastest 400-meter time in the NAIA this season. Davis also achieved an “A” standard with the mark.
He returned the next day to anchor Cumberlands’ 4x400-meter relay on March 28, helping the Patriots place fourth in a 33-team field with a time of 3:10.56. The relay also hit an “A” standard, and the performance is the fastest 4x400 time recorded by an NAIA squad this season.
With two events, two “A” standards, and two NAIA-leading times, Davis’ Raleigh Relays showing was as complete as it was impactful.
