Illotti Sets New Career-High for Attacker of the Week Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mount Mercy (Iowa) sophomore opposite Guglielmo Illotti has been named NAIA Men’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week after a strong three-match stretch that powered the Mustangs to a perfect week.
Illotti compiled 59 kills in 10 sets while hitting .395. His production translated to 5.90 kills per set. Over the week, he also contributed around the net and in the back court, finishing with seven total blocks and 18 digs, showing an all-around presence that extended beyond the stat line of kills alone.
The week began Feb. 24 in a straight-sets win over Clarke (Iowa), where Illotti recorded eight kills on 18 swings while adding three digs. Mount Mercy then faced a tougher test on Feb. 27 against No. 14 Morningside (Iowa), and Illotti elevated his game accordingly. In the four-set victory, he put down 23 kills, averaging 5.75 kills per set, and hit .347 while helping stabilize the the team through extended rallies with three digs and three total blocks.
His signature performance came the next day, Feb. 28, in a four-set win over RV Dordt (Iowa). Illotti set a new career high with 28 kills and did it with near-.500 efficiency, hitting .489 on 47 attempts with just five errors. He was relentless from start to finish, adding 12 digs and three total blocks while accounting for 32.5 points in the match.
