Park (Mo.) Wins Semifinal Match in Straight Sets

KANSAS CITY, Mo. [BOX SCORE] - The Park (Mo.) Pirates stayed perfect after a straight set route of the Missouri Valley Vikings on Friday afternoon at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, sweeping 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 to move to 34-0 while Missouri Valley’s season mark slipped to 25-6.

The opening set solidified the tone. Missouri Valley hit negative as a team in the first (9 kills, 11 errors on 26 swings, -.077), compared to the Pirates' .353 attack percentage that helped them close the set comfortably at 25-14.

Missouri Valley’s best stretch came in set two. The Vikings hit .241 (11 kills, 4 errors on 29 attempts). Park answered with its most explosive offensive frame, posting 18 kills and hitting .448 in the set. With setter Umberto Caleca distributing 32 assists on the day, Park repeatedly found high-efficiency options in transition and on first-ball sideout, keeping Missouri Valley from stringing together enough points to flip the set. Park took the second set 25-19.

Any hope of a late push disappeared in the third as Park reached another level of efficiency, hitting .520 (14 kills, just 1 error on 25 swings). Missouri Valley remained competitive on the scoreboard early but couldn’t close the gap to force a fourth set as Park closed out the sweep 25-17.

Individually, Missouri Valley was led by Luca Hasse with 9 kills. Joao Tavares provided the most efficient production for Missouri Valley with 6 kills on .400 while also contributing 2 aces, but the Vikings as a whole finished at .131 hitting (31 kills, 20 errors on 84 attempts) and totaled 4 blocks compared to Park’s 27 block assists (plus 1 solo). Leonardo Poiatti ran the offense with 19 assists.

For Park, Adrian Figueroa was the primary attacker with 15 kills on .462 and added a solo block and four block assists for an 18-point line. Murillo Silva added 10 kills on .444 with five block assists, while Moises Ortiz was nearly automatic, scoring 6 kills on 7 swings for an .857 clip and contributing seven block assists. Mihailo Ivanovic also made a major impact at the net with six block assists, underscoring how Park’s front line dictated matchups from start to finish. Park hit .451 as a team, served evenly (6 aces, 6 errors), and won the defensive battle with 27 digs to Missouri Valley’s 20.

With the loss, Missouri Valley is eliminated from tournament play. Park will move on to the championship match at 5 p.m. CT, on May 2, to face the winner of the second semifinal with The Master's (Claif.) vs Saint Xavier (Ill.).
