Park (Mo.) Moves on to Semifinals with Sweep of OUAZ (Ariz.)

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa [BOX SCORE]— The Park (Mo.) Pirates continued its march through an undefeated season Thursday night, defeating OUAZ (Ariz.) Spirit in straight sets, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23, at Alliant Energy PowerHouse. The win pushes Park to 33-0 on the year, while OUAZ drops to 20-7 after a match that grew increasingly competitive as it progressed.

Park’s offensive efficiency set the tone early and never wavered. The Pirates finished the night hitting .355 as a team, including a dominant .550 clip in the second set that helped create separation midway through the match. OUAZ, meanwhile, improved its attack as the match wore on but was unable to match Park’s consistency, closing at a .143 hitting percentage.

The opening frame proved costly for OUAZ, as nine attacking errors limited any sustained momentum. Park capitalized, hitting .308 in the set to secure a 25-20 victory. The Pirates elevated their level even further in the second, committing just two errors while producing 13 kills on 20 swings. Although OUAZ showed improvement and stayed within reach, Park maintained control to take the set 25-21.

The third set provided OUAZ its best opportunity to extend the match. The Spirit hit .214 and stayed within a point or two for much of the frame, applying late pressure as the score tightened. However, Park leaned on its top attackers in key moments, with timely kills from Figueroa and Silva helping close out the match, 25-23.

Adrian Figueroa led all players with 16 kills, pacing a balanced Park attack that featured four players with five or more kills. Murillo Silva added 13 kills, and Mihailo Ivanovic delivered one of the most efficient performances of the night with five kills on just seven swings without an error, good for a .714 hitting percentage. Setter Jovan Nikolic controlled the offense throughout, handing out 28 assists and keeping OUAZ’s defense off balance.

OUAZ found its rhythm in stretches, particularly behind Jack Hubbard, who recorded a team-high 13 kills on .375 hitting. Caeden Salmen contributed eight kills, while Treven Clizbe added six kills. Madduxx Goron directed the offense with 29 assists.

At the net, Park’s defensive presence added another layer. The Pirates totaled 15 blocks, including six solo stops, disrupting OUAZ’s rhythm, while OUAZ finished with 11 blocks of its own.

In total, Park held advantages in kills (41-34), hitting percentage (.355 to .143), and blocks.

With the loss, OUAZ is eliminated from tournament play, while Park will advance to the semifinals to face Missouri Valley on Friday, May 1, at 4 p.m. CT.
