Saint Gregory's University advances at 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship with 3-2 victory over Bellevue University

                                                                                             

DECATUR, Ala. - Jessica Munson's RBI single in the fifth gave Saint Gregory's University a 3-2 Pool D victory over Bellevue University Saturday (May 19) afternoon at the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship at Wilson Morgan Park.

 

The 10th-ranked Cavaliers improved to 36-12 overall and to 3-1 in the pool. With the win, Saint Gregory's clinched the No. 2 seed from the pool and will advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament which begins Monday (May 21). Bellevue, which plays Tiffin University at 8:30 p.m. tonight, falls to 34-7 and 0-3.

 

The Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Nicole Tindall's double to left-center field before Bellevue responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on Sarah Walck's home run to left field.

 

Saint Gregory's tied the game at 2 in the top of the second as Laura Mehl, who had reached on a single, scored as part of a double steal. The Cavaliers regained the lead in the fifth against reliever Jen Miller (19-5) when Munson laced a single to left to score Brittany Dojcak, who had reached on a fielder's choice.

 

Sharon Bell improved to 35-11 as she scattered five hits and struck out 14 for the Cavaliers.
