Jayden Sawyer of William Carey (Miss.) Averaged a Dozen Strikeouts in Both Outings Earning Pitcher of the Week Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Jayden Sawyer of William Carey (Miss.) was stellar in her two appearances from the circle last week. Posting an average of 12.06 strikeouts per seven innings, while picking up two wins, the junior also picked up national Pitcher of the Week honors.
Sawyer tossed game one against Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.), going 6.2 innings. She struck out 15 batters during her time in the circle, while allowing just three hits and one run. The following day, she was put to the test, tossing a complete game that went nine innings. The junior struck out 12 batters and allowed just three hits and one run as the Crusaders picked up the narrow 2-1 victory.
Overall, in just two outings last week, she tossed a total of 15.2 innings while striking out 27 batters.
Sawyer and Co. are back in action on Friday, April 10, for a doubleheader against Mobile (Ala.) in Hattiesburg. First pitch of game one will be tossed at 4 p.m.
