Ashley Dickey Posted 14 Steals on the Week for Defensive Player of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Tennessee Southern senior guard Ashley Dickey has been named the NAIA Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week after delivering a dominant, disruptive performance that powered the Firehawks to a 2-0 week.
A 5-foot-10 veteran from Baltimore, Maryland, Dickey was everywhere defensively across Tennessee Southern’s home wins over Abraham Baldwin (80-58 on Jan. 22) and Thomas (Ga.) (77-65 on Jan. 23), averaging an eye-popping seven steals per game. Her pressure at the point of attack and instincts in passing lanes consistently turned defense into offense, fueling runs and forcing opponents out of rhythm.
The week began with a statement performance against Abraham Baldwin, when Dickey posted a triple-double while stuffing the stat sheet in just 29 minutes. She finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, 10 steals, and a block. Less than a day later, she followed it up with another high-impact outing against Thomas, recording a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds to go with two assists, four steals, and another block in 27 minutes.
Across the two games, Dickey totaled 38 points on 16-of-39 shooting, added 23 rebounds and seven assists, and came away with 14 steals and two blocks.
