Bethel (Tenn.) Takes Over No. 1 Spot in Latest NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Bethel (Tenn.) has climbed to the top of the latest NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll for the first time in program history, earning 14 first-place votes and 534 points after starting the season 13-0. The Wildcats jumped one spot from No. 2 to No. 1, overtaking Dordt (Iowa), which now sits at No. 2 with four first-place votes and 510 points following a 10-1 start. Campbellsville (Ky.) remains steady at No. 3 with a perfect 13-0 record and one first-place vote, while Dakota State (S.D.) and Marian (Ind.) round out the top five at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) continues its unbeaten run at 12-0 and moves up to No. 6, while Saint Francis (Ind.) drops one spot to No. 7 despite a strong 9-1 record. Rio Grande (Ohio) makes the biggest jump in the top 10, climbing five spots to No. 8 after a 9-1 start. Concordia (Neb.) holds firm at No. 9, and Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) surges four spots to No. 10 following a key conference win. Other notable movers include Montana Tech, which leaps 11 spots to No. 14, and Cumberlands (Ky.), up six spots to No. 12, while Huntington (Ind.) and Mid-America Christian (Okla.) join the Top 25 this week.

  

1. Bethel (Tenn.)

Games prior to next poll: Dec. 18 Grand View (Iowa), Jan. 3 Tennessee Southern, Jan. 5 Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.), Jan. 10 Georgetown (Ky.)

Notes: Bethel (Tenn.) Wildcats are off to a flawless start this season, boasting a perfect 13-0 record and riding a 13-game winning streak. The Wildcats have been dominant both at home and on the road, going 6-0 in McKenzie and 4-0 away from home, with three neutral-site wins to round out their resume. Recent victories include a 70-45 win at Fisk (Tenn.) and a 73-56 road triumph over Faulkner (Ala.), where Bethel shot an impressive 55.1% from the field and 53.8% from beyond the arc. Leading the charge is Micah Hart, who has poured in 228 points while shooting 53.8% from the floor and an outstanding 88.4% at the free-throw line this season. Mikee Buchanan isn’t far behind with 215 points and a team-best 44.3% from three-point range, while Adalyn Koelling adds balance inside with 58.2% shooting.

2. Dordt (Iowa)

Notes: Dordt (Iowa) Defenders are off to a strong start this season with a 10-1 overall record and a 6-1 mark in conference play. The Defenders have won two straight after the team's first loss of the season at Doane (Neb.). The team's most recent wins include an 86-81 shootout against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) and a convincing 79-57 victory over Concordia (Neb.), where they shot 44.4% from the field and an impressive 43.5% from three-point range. Junior forward Gracie Schoonhoven has been a force inside, leading the team with 249 points while shooting 57.6% from the floor and 84.2% at the line this season. Senior guard Macy Sievers adds 180 points and a steady presence in the backcourt, while Willow Bleeker provides perimeter scoring with 23 threes and a perfect 100% from the free-throw line. 

3. Campbellsville (Ky.)

Notes: Campbellsville (Ky.) Tigers are rolling through the season with a perfect 13-0 record and a 13-game winning streak, showing no signs of slowing down. The Tigers have been dominant on their home court, going 8-0, and they’ve added five neutral-site wins to their resume. Recent outings have been nothing short of impressive, including a 109-36 rout of Indiana East, where they shot nearly 58% from the field and 55% from three-point range. Senior forward Whitney Hay leads the charge with 213 points, shooting 54.2% from the floor and an outstanding 83.1% from the free-throw line on the season. Dea Bradley adds 163 points and a reliable outside presence, while freshman Lainey Johnson has made an immediate impact with 125 points and a 90% mark at the stripe.

4. Dakota State (S.D.)

Games prior to next poll: Jan. 2 Carroll (Mont.), Jan. 3 Rocky Mountain (Mont.), Jan. 9 Bismark State (N.D.), Jan. 10 Dickinson State (N.D.)

Notes: Dakota State (S.D.) boasts a 12-1 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play while riding a nine-game winning streak. The Trojans have been unbeatable at home (7-0) and continue to show their depth and efficiency on the road, with recent wins over Montana State-Northern and Providence (Mont.) to cap off a strong December stretch. Senior forward Tabor Teel leads the charge this season with 200 points on 54.5% shooting, while junior guards Caitlin Dyer and Cierra Watkins add a combined 324 points, both shooting 50% or better from the field. Dakota State’s offensive versatility is evident with multiple players contributing from beyond the arc—Hamtyn Heinz and Mackenzi Simmons have combined for 50 threes—while the team’s defense has held opponents under 65 points in four of its last five games.

5. Marian (Ind.)

Games prior to next poll: Dec. 19 Rocky Mountain (Mont.), Dec. 20 Arizona Christian, Dec. 30 Ohio Christian, Jan. 3 Taylor (Ind.), Jan. 7 Grace (Ind.), Jan. 10 Saint Francis (Ind.)

Notes: Marian (Ind.) is off to a flawless start, sitting at 11-0 overall and 4-0 in Crossroads League play. The Knights have been dominant both at home and on the road, going 5-0 in each, with recent wins over Goshen (Ind.) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) showcasing their offensive efficiency and defensive toughness. Senior forward Abbey McNally has been a force in the paint this season, leading the team with 182 points on 58.3% shooting, while Kenna Kirby and Madisyn Bailey provide perimeter balance, combining for over 200 points and shooting better than 44% from three. Marian’s depth is evident with multiple players contributing in double figures, including Kiley McNally and Taylor Double, giving the Knights a versatile attack.

6. Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.)

Notes: Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) Lions continue to impress with a perfect 12-0 start, extending their winning streak to 12 games behind a balanced and efficient offense. The Lady Lions have been dominant at home (6-0) and flawless on the road (4-0), with recent wins over Fisk (Tenn.) (72-40) and Grand View (Iowa) (71-45) showcasing their defensive strength and shooting consistency. Jenna Satterly has been a standout, leading the team with 177 points while shooting 56% from the field and an incredible 57.1% from beyond the arc this season. Lilly Kee has been nearly unstoppable inside, hitting 67.6% of her shots and converting 91.2% at the free-throw line for 169 points. Veteran guard Rachel Satterly and sharpshooter Carissa Curtis add depth, combining for 245 points and strong perimeter shooting. 

7. Saint Francis (Ind.)

Games prior to next poll: Dec. 27 Rochester Christian (Mich.), Jan. 3 Goshen (Ind.), Jan. 7 Taylor (Ind.), Jan. 10 Marian (Ind.)

Notes: Saint Francis (Ind.) has posted a 12-1 overall record and a 3-1 mark in conference play while riding a three-game winning streak. The Cougars have been nearly flawless on the road (7-1) and remain unbeaten at home (4-0), with recent wins over Bethel (Ind.) and Southeastern (Fla.) showcasing their ability to score efficiently and defend tough. Sophomore standout Cali Gregory leads the team this season with 212 points, shooting 53.2% from the field and an outstanding 46.6% from three-point range. Renna Schwieterman and Taylor Fordyce provide a strong inside-outside combination, combining for over 330 points and shooting better than 48% from the floor. Isabella Gizzi adds another scoring punch with 143 points and a near-perfect 96.6% from the free-throw line. 

8. Rio Grande (Ohio)

Notes: Rio Grande (Ohio) is off to a strong start this season with a 9-1 overall record and a perfect 1-0 mark in conference play, despite a recent setback against Marian (Ind.). The RedStorm have only one blemish on their record on home court (5-1) and flawless on the road (4-0), fueled by an efficient and balanced offense. Senior forward Marlee Grinstead leads the way this season with 141 points, shooting an impressive 58.3% from the field and 91.3% at the free-throw line. Payton Johnson and freshman Allie Ellyson provide additional scoring punch, each contributing 127 points while combining for 19 three-pointers. Inside, Josie Graves and Sophia Kline have been nearly automatic, shooting over 62% from the floor and adding more than 200 points combined. 

9. Concordia (Neb.)

Games prior to next poll: Dec. 18 Campbellsville (Ky.), Dec. 19 Providence (Mont.), Jan. 3 Northwestern (Iowa), Jan. 7 Morningside (Iowa), Jan. 10 Briar Cliff (Iowa)

Notes: Concordia (Neb.) Bulldogs are off to a solid start with a 10-2 overall record and a 6-2 mark in GPAC play, despite dropping their most recent game to Dordt. The Bulldogs have posted a 6-1 record at home (6-1) and 4-1 record on the road, highlighted by a 98-37 win at Midland (Neb.) where they shot nearly 49% from the field and 45.2% from three-point range. Senior forward Kristin Vieselmeyer leads the way this season with 150 points on 54.5% shooting and a team-best 44.4% from beyond the arc, while guards Bree Bunting and Sammy Leu provide balance with a combined 226 points and consistent perimeter scoring. Freshman Ayla Roth has also made an immediate impact, adding 103 points.

10. Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.)

Notes: Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) Tigers are finding their rhythm with a 7-4 overall record and a 5-2 mark in GPAC play, highlighted by a 96-41 win over College of Saint Mary (Neb.) in their most recent outing. The Tigers have been perfect at home (4-0) and continue to show offensive balance, averaging strong shooting numbers even in tough matchups. Junior forward Emma Yost leads the way this season with 174 points, shooting 48.6% from the field and 43.5% from three, while senior guard Rylee Rosenquist adds 133 points and a team-best 76.1% from the free-throw line. Avery Broughton and Shalayne Nagel provide additional scoring punch, combining for nearly 250 points and shooting close to 50% from the floor. The Tigers enter the holiday season with four players averaging double figures and a defense capable of holding opponents under 60 points.
