Two Clean Sheets and Nine Saves Slings Avery Sluss to NAIA Defensive Player of the Week Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Indiana Wesleyan’s Avery Sluss was selected as the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Wildcats to a pair of clean sheets against ranked opponents to open Crossroads League play.
Sluss anchored the Indiana Wesleyan defense in a scoreless draw with No. 13 Spring Arbor (Mich.) before helping secure a 1-0 victory over No. 24 Taylor (Ind.). The junior goalkeeper played all 180 minutes on the week, recording four saves against Spring Arbor and five more versus Taylor for a total of nine.
Through nine matches this season, Sluss has allowed just four goals while collecting 28 saves for a .875 save percentage. Her efforts have propelled the Wildcats to a 7-1-1 overall record, with a 1-0-1 mark in conference play.
Indiana Wesleyan continues league action this week, hosting No. 23 Grace (Ind.) on Wednesday before traveling to Huntington (Ind.) on Saturday.
