After Eight First Round Games, The Second Round on Saturday is Set

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - [First & Second Round Schedule/Results | Bracket] The 2025 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship First Round Presented by Select Sport America kicked off earlier today, Nov. 20, with eight games around the country. The first round saw four upsets, and only one shootout, as all of the second-round games have been set.

Spring Arbor (Mich.) came alive in Marshall, Mo., to kick off first-round play today, blanking Holy Cross (Ind.), 5-0. The match favored the Cougars right from the opening kick and continued throughout, with SAU tallying 23 total shots and four corners. Janiah Juarez of Holy Cross (Ind.) was tested often in goal, being called upon several times. The Cougars will face Missouri Valley on Saturday, Nov. 22, with a trip to Pensacola on the line.

The Saints of Aquinas (Mich.) recorded the first upset of the day with a 3-1 victory over St. Ambrose (Iowa) in the Indianapolis bracket. The Saints struck early with the opening goal of the game from Madison Slezinski in the 32nd minute. AQ went up 2-0 in the 72nd minute before St. Ambrose scored its first goal from Chloe Travis in the 80th minute. Shots between the two teams were fairly even at 16-19, but leaned in favor of St. Amrbose. The Queen Bees will take on host school Marian (Ind.) on Saturday, with one team moving on to play soccer in December.

The Broncos of Hastings (Neb.) secured a spot in the second round after a 3-1 win over Friends (Kan.). This was another battle between two evenly matched teams, as just one shot, save, and corner kick separated the two squads. The Broncos didn't take the lead till the 52nd minute of the game, but they quickly extended it to 3-0 by the 79th minute. The Falcons answered back in the 85th minute before running out of clock. The Broncos will face the Golden Eagles of John Brown (Ark.) on Saturday as the beach awaits the winner.

Up north in the vast acres of potato farms, the Mustangs of The Master's cruised through the first round against Northwestern Ohio. Despite the score being 1-0, the Mustangs were not short on chances, outshooting the Racers 19-3. Neither team was credited with a corner kick in the game. The Master's will take on the College of Idaho Yotes Saturday, with a ticket to the Emerald Coast awaiting the winner.

Oakland City (Ind.) secured its ticket to the second round on Saturday, emerging with a 1-0 win against Eastern Oregon in a tight match from start to finish. Both teams took six shots, and both keepers were called upon twice in the match as it was a battle for midfield control. Lena Poulain was the different maker in the game, scoring the game-winning goal in the 89th minute. Oakland City will take on Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday with a ticket to warmer weather for some soccer in December.

For the second consecutive year, Xavier (La.) advances to the second round after defeating Campbellsville (Ky.) 2-1. All three goals came late in the second half of action with XULA striking first in the 51st minute, followed by the Tigers tying the game at 1-1 in the 69th minute. The game remained tied will Crislyn Gregory found the back of the net in the 83rd minute for the game-winning goal. Xavier outshot Campbellsville 15-7 in the match. XULA will take on William Carey (Miss.) Saturday, with a trip to Pensacola, Fla. at stake.

Southern Oregon emerged victorious after 110 minutes of play and penalty kicks against Morningside (Iowa). Morningside struck first in the 54th minute as Keyera Harmon found the back of the net. Southern Oregon knotted the game in the 82nd minute off the foot of Abby McKean. Neither team was able to net the game-winning goal in overtime, as penalty kicks were needed to determine a winner. Frida Vargas answered that call, going to the upper right corner of the net to secure the Raiders a spot in the second round on Saturday against Grace (Ind.).

Mid-America Christian (Okla.) blanked Talladega (Ala.) 6-0 in the first round nightcap from Bartlesville, scoring early and often. MACU posted 15 shots to Talladega's four in the match as corner kicks also favored the Evangels 10-0. MACU's season continues on Saturday against Oklahoma Wesleyan with a trip to the beach on the line.
