Melnikova Powers Keiser Women's Tennis Through Ranked Competition for Weekly Honor
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Alexandra Melnikova of Keiser has been named NAIA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, marking the fourth time this season that Keiser women’s tennis has earned the honor.
Melnikova turned in an outstanding week across the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, as well as at No. 3 doubles, leading the Seahawks to a pair of road victories over nationally ranked opponents.
Facing NCAA Division II No. 1 Barry, Melnikova delivered a clutch three-set victory over Louane Lutringer, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, helping secure a 4-2 team win. She followed with a strong performance against No. 47 Saint Leo, cruising to a straight-set victory over No. 57-ranked Bernier, 6-1, 6-0, in a 4-0 sweep.
In doubles play, Melnikova rebounded from a narrow 4-6 loss against Barry by teaming with Lena Couto to earn a 6-4 win against Saint Leo.
Keiser women’s tennis improves to 14-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Seahawks return to action on April 7 against NCAA Division II opponent Palm Beach Atlantic.
