Day 2 of the 2026 NAIA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championships Recap
GAINESVILLE, Fla. [RESULTS] - The second day of the 2026 NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship opened with the heptathlon and 3,000m race walk, featured several preliminary races and two field events and concluded with eight national champions crowned at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center.
Heptathlon Highlights
- Entering the day in fourth place, Carter Giittinger of Friends (Kan.) surged to the national title with strong performances across the final three events. Giittinger placed second in the 60m hurdles (8.36) and pole vault (4.65m) before closing with a sixth-place finish in the 1000m run (2:42.21).
- Giittinger totaled 5,466 points across the seven events, surpassing his previous personal best by 350 points to earn NAIA National Champion honors.
- Justin Krabbenhoft of Eastern Oregon finished second in the final standings with 5,413 points, while Carson Krack of Carroll (Mont.) placed third with 5,334 points.
- Liam McHugh of Cornerstone (Mich.) won the opening event of the day, the 60m hurdles, with a time of 8.32 and later earned All-America honors with a seventh-place overall finish.
- Tucker Monaco of Carroll claimed the pole vault win with a clearance of 4.75m (15'7"), earning 834 points. Monaco finished eighth overall to secure All-America status.
- In the final event, Will Jarman of Indiana Tech posted the fastest 1000m run of the competition at 2:34.92, earning 931 points and finishing fifth overall with 5,183 points.
3,000m Race Walk
- Owen Nolte of Benedictine (Kan.), seeded fifth entering the event, delivered a standout performance to claim the national title in a personal-best 11:51.71, nearly 30 seconds faster than his previous best.
- Cameron Nocton of IU East (Ind.) finished second at 11:53.61, while Tomas Mencel of Cumberlands (Ky.) placed third in 11:57.33.
Weight Throw
- Cornerstone (Mich.) teammates Stuart Stovall and Ryan Shinaberry finished first and second in the weight throw. Stovall captured the title with a mark of 21.09m (69' 2.5"), a significant improvement on his previous best of 19.80m.
- Shinaberry, seeded sixth entering the event, recorded a throw of 19.40m to claim silver, surpassing his previous best of 18.93m.
- Nathan Baldwin of Concordia (Neb.) placed third with a mark of 19.30m.
Long Jump
- Elijah Smith of St. Thomas (Fla.) entered the championship as the event favorite after posting a qualifying mark of 7.82m earlier this season and backed it up with a winning leap of 7.69m, capturing the NAIA national title.
- Royan Walters of William Carey (Miss.) finished second with a mark of 7.54m, while Jaylen Burris of Voorhees (S.C.) placed third at 7.43m.
4x800 Relay
- Marian (Ind.) captured the national title in the 4x800 relay as Mason Piatt, Ben Riehle, Charles Leedke and Tristan Trevino crossed the line in 7:27.72, breaking the meet record set during yesterday's preliminaries by roughly two seconds.
- Park (Mo.), which set the previous record in the prelims, finished second in 7:31.24 behind the quartet of Cody Hammond, Caden Peters, Alexander Caines and Palmer O'Connor.
- Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) placed third with a time of 7:32.10 with Ryan Lehman, Simon Rohwer, Daron Porter and Evan Hodkinson.
Preliminary races were contested in the men's 1600m run, 60m hurdles, 400m dash, 600m run, 60m dash, 800m run, 1000m run and 200m dash.
Through six scored events, Marian (Ind.) leads the men's team standings with 23 points. Cornerstone (Mich.) sits close behind in second with 22 points, while Cumberlands (Ky.) holds third with 18.
Competition at the 2026 NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship continues Saturday, March 7, at 11:30 a.m. ET with the men's triple jump. Track finals will begin at 12:25 p.m. ET, with the Championship Awards Ceremony scheduled for 6:15 p.m. ET.
