Katie Woods Earns Second Consecutive Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Award
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Marian (Ind.) senior Katie Woods of Fort Wayne, Indiana, is the NAIA Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week after a record-breaking weekend at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee, where she delivered two elite performances.
Woods opened the meet on Friday, Feb. 13, by rewriting the Marian record book in the mile. In a deep race featuring 113 athletes, she placed fourth in 4:42.70, shattering her previous personal best by nearly five seconds. The performance not only earned an NAIA “A” standard, but it also moved her to the top of the national list with the fastest mile time in the NAIA this season.
She returned the next day and proved the first result was no fluke, running the 800 meters on Saturday, Feb. 14. Woods again broke her own school record, running 2:09.40 to finish 10th in a field of 22. The time met the NAIA “A” standard and stands as the NAIA’s second-fastest 800-meter mark of the season.
This is the final indoor track award of the season.
