Day 1 Recap of the 2024 NAIA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship
MARION, Ind. – The first day of the 2024 NAIA Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship concluded with five champions and a new record.
- Renee Finke of Central Methodist (Mo.) leads the heptathlon after four events with 3168 points. The junior's highest finish in today’s events was a first-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.73m.
- The 2023 heptathlon runner-up Rebecca Dutchak of British Columbia sits in second place with a total of 3157 points. Dutchak’s highest finish came in the 200m at first place with a time of 25.25.
- Abi Stevens of Southern Oregon is third, totaling 3121. After day one, the senior's highest finish was second place in the high jump with a mark of 1.70m.
- Defending outdoor heptathlon champion Kaitlyn McColly sits in fourth place with 3096 points and first place finishes in both the 100m hurdles (13.9) and shot put (11.88m).
- Sonya Urbanowicz of British Columbia became a back-to-back champion in the pole vault. Urbanowicz won with a mark of 3.85m, just short of her 2023 winning mark of 3.95.
- Jennifer Batu of Life (Ga.) repeated as champion in the hammer throw with a record-breaking 64.14m mark. The previous record was set by Reta Woodard from Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) in 2013 with a mark of 61.64.
- Kiara Anderson of Hastings (Neb.) was the runner-up in the hammer throw with a personal best mark of 60.83m.
- Machaeda Linton of William Carey (Miss.) repeated as the long jump champion with a mark of 6.35m for a new personal best.
- Laurel Barber of MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) set a new personal best in the javelin with a mark of 45.12m to win the 2024 title.
- Alina Boshchuk of Cumberlands (Ky.) won her first and the school's first 10,000m title with a time of 36:18.63.
