Chloe Gunderson Bests Three Events for Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Dickinson State (N.D.) senior Chloe Gunderson of Powers Lake, North Dakota, has been named Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week after a dominant sweep at the Al Bortke Classic on April 12.

Gunderson won all three throwing events she entered, delivering championship performances across the shot put, discus and hammer throw. She opened the meet by taking first in the shot put with a best mark of 15.71 meters in a four-athlete field, a throw that met the NAIA “A” standard and now stands as the top mark in the NAIA this season. That performance also rewrote the Dickinson State record books and sits No. 6 on the NAIA all-time list.

She followed with another meet win in the discus, again producing an NAIA-leading mark. Gunderson threw 50.48 meters to claim first place in a six-athlete competition, hitting the “A” standard and setting another school record.

Gunderson completed her sweep by winning the hammer throw at 53.34 meters, taking first in a six-athlete field. The throw met the NAIA “B” standard and secured her qualification for the NAIA National Championships in the event, adding to an already exceptional day.
