British Columbia Wins Sixth Women's Outdoor Track and Field Red Banner

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - British Columbia capped a standout week at the NAIA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship by rising above a deep, talented field to claim the team's sixth national title in seven years.  

Discus

The women’s discus featured a tight battle at the top, with Sydney Duncan of IU Kokomo (Ind.) winning the event with a throw of 47.62m (156-02) to earn 10 points. Aquinas (Mich.) junior Maelie Hope was right behind in second at 47.54m (155-11) for 8 points, while Dickinson State (S.D.) senior Kori Nagel took third with 46.99m (154-02) to score 6. Fourth and fifth were separated only by placement, as Mary Lorang of Benedictine (Kan.) and Bri Nichols of Indiana Wesleyan both recorded 46.73m (153-03), worth 5 and 4 points respectively. Midland’s Sara Diew placed sixth at 45.88m (150-06), followed by Doane (Neb.) freshman Paige Bull in seventh at 45.78m (150-02) and Dordt’s (Iowa) Makenna Walhof in eighth with 44.65m (146-06), rounding out the All-America finishers.

High Jump

The women’s high jump featured a strong winning performance from Adarra Hagelund of Dickinson State (N.D.), who cleared 1.81m (5-11.25) to set a new personal best, while scoring 10 team points. Emma Valentine of Siena Heights (Mich.) took second at 1.76m (5-09.25), a season best, followed by Delaney Miller of Evangel (Mo.) in third with a 1.73m (5-08.00) season best. A tight battle developed at 1.70m (5-07.00), where Rosemond Owusu of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), Alexis Furgason of Aquinas (Mich.), Anna Jeannin of Huntington (Ind.), and Sarah Pimblett of British Columbia all cleared the height, with Furgason, Jeannin, and Pimblett each notching new personal bests.

Javelin

The javelin competition was highlighted by a standout win from Casey Olson of Dakota State (S.D.), who threw 46.66m (153-01) to take first place while also earning 10 team points. Codi Nagle of Dickinson State (N.D.) followed in second with a strong 45.02m (147-08) for 8 points, and Oregon Tech freshman Amina Redfield placed third at 44.42m (145-09) to add 6 points. Close behind, British Columbia freshman Catarina Bell finished fourth with 44.37m (145-07), good for  5 points, while Havyn Vandenacre of Providence (Mont.) rounded out the top five at 43.95m (144-02) for 4 points. Kansas Wesleyan’s Maddy Wolf took sixth with 43.92m (144-01), and the final scoring spots went to Julie Coffey of Baker (Kan.) in seventh at 42.63m (139-10) and Ja’Delle Major of Brewton-Parker (Ga.) in eighth at 42.61m (139-09). Dakota State also placed another athlete in the top 10 with freshman Daynica Witzel finishing ninth at 42.19m (138-05), and Montreat’s Emma Barnes completed the top 10 with a 40.86m (134-00) effort.

3000m Steeplechase

In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Elysse Fleming of British Columbia won in 10:22.95 to secure 10 points, holding off Ellen-Mary Kearney of Milligan (Tenn.), who finished second in 10:24.05 for 8 points with a personal best. Kylee Quinton of the College of Idaho took third in 10:39.64 (6 points) for a personal best, followed by Courtney Sporrer of Morningside (Iowa) in fourth at 10:44.65 (5 points) for a personal best and Abby Knepper of Mount Mercy (Iowa) in fifth at 10:48.89 (4 points). Samantha Patterson of Taylor (Ind.) placed sixth in 10:59.47 (3 points) with a personal best, while Dordt (Iowa) added two finishers in Adeline Crow (7th, 11:02.95, 2 points, season best) and Macy Marshall (11th, 11:09.85, personal best). Kaitlyn Knoche of St. Ambrose (Iowa) earned the final scoring spot in eighth at 11:04.04 (1 point).

4x100 Relay

In the women’s 4x100 relay, St. Thomas (Fla.) captured the win in 45.13 behind the squad of T. Beckford, N. Barr-Miller, D. Wilson and K. Darrisaw, earning 10 team points. Doane (Neb.) followed in second at 45.44 with R. Thompson, T. Gleason, E. Wemhoff and N. Hekl for 8 points, while Cumberlands (Ky.) took third in a season-best 45.54 as L. Guzman, R. Vigne, A. Kante, and M. Raglin added 6 points. Central Methodist (Mo.) placed fourth in 46.18 (5 points), just ahead of Dillard (La.) in 46.19 (4 points) and Lawrence Tech (Mich.) in 46.24 (3 points). The final two scoring spots were decided by a razor-thin margin, with Park (Mo.) edging Marian (Ind.) 46.397 to 46.399 to take seventh and eighth, respectively.

1500m

In the women’s 1500m run, Mackenzie Campbell of British Columbia claimed the win in 4:22.31 to earn 10 points, leading a strong showing for UBC that also included third-place Sarah MacGillivray (4:27.95, 6 points) and 11th-place Rachel McDonald (4:46.04). Marian (Ind.) placed two runners in the top eight, led by runner-up Katie Woods in 4:24.04 for 8 points, followed by Gracynn Hinkley in eighth (4:33.99, 1 point). Eastern Oregon’s Riley Morris finished fourth in 4:28.67, marking a season best, while Aquinas (Mich.) junior Madison Rempalski took fifth in 4:29.75 with a personal best. Olivet Nazarene’s Heidi Heldt (4:30.08) and Oklahoma City’s Erika Pena (4:30.46, new PB) rounded out the scoring places, with Suzie Johnson (4:36.99), Kiely Munson (4:43.31), and Dordt’s Corinne Braun (4:48.41) completing the field.

100m hurdles

In the women’s 100m hurdles, Adrianna Rodencal of Concordia (Neb.) led the way with a winning time of 13.57 in Heat 1 with a +0.8 m/s wind, earning 10 points. Hastings (Neb.) senior Jaida Rowe followed closely in 13.69 for second, a personal best, adding 8 points. Xavier (La.) freshman Rochelle Jeffries continued the strong performances by taking third in a PB 13.86 for 6 points, while Lewis-Clark (Idaho) senior Madigan Kelly placed fourth in 13.99 (5 points). Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) junior Chenessa Davis rounded out the top five in 14.02 for 4 points, with Lawrence Tech (Mich.) sophomore Latrice Williams sixth in 14.14 (3 points). Saint Mary (Kan.) junior Jordyn Miller-Knuckles matched her personal best in seventh at 14.17 (2 points), and Ottawa (Kan.) senior JayOnna Perry finished eighth in 14.18 to score the final point.

400m

In the women’s 400m, Nikiwe Mongwe of MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) led the field with a winning time of 53.21, setting a new season best and scoring 10 points. Tonyan Beckford of St. Thomas (Fla.) followed in 53.82 for second, a personal best, adding 8 points. Charity Jones (Madonna, Mich.) took third in 53.93 for 6 points, while Kat Vogt (Doane, Neb.) placed fourth in 54.37 for 5 points. Chaleica Booker of Huston-Tillotson (Texas) finished fifth in 55.18 for 4 points, and Lillian Pickett of Southern Oregon ran a personal best 55.29 to earn 3 points. Hannah Reid of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) was seventh in 55.65 for 2 points, and Giselle Uvieghara of Indiana Tech rounded out the scoring in eighth with 56.92 for 1 point.

100m

In the women’s 100m with a +1.1 m/s wind, Blessing Ogundiran of Warner delivered a meet-record performance, winning in 11.17 to score 10 points. The previous recors was set in 2014 by Jura Levy of Oklahoma Baptist at 11.28.

Tiyna Ridge of Friends (Kan.) followed in 11.46 for 8 points, while Tyeese Smith of William Carey (Miss.) took third in 11.66 to add 6 points. Mya Charles of Park (Mo.) placed fourth in 11.80 (5 points), with Bri Hay of St. Thomas (Fla.) close behind in 11.87 (4 points) and Roy’Janae Brown of Ottawa (Kan.) sixth in 11.88 (3 points). Morgan Lilly of Evangel (Mo.) finished seventh in 11.96 (2 points), and Hannah Reid of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) rounded out the field in 14.54 (1 point).

800m

In the women’s 800m, Emeline Delaville of Life (Ga.) took the win in 2:06.93 to score 10 points, holding off Mackenzie Campbell of British Columbia, who finished second in 2:07.58 for 8 points. Cecelia Campos of Benedictine (Kan.) placed third in 2:08.21, setting a personal best, while Olivia Mathis of Saint Xavier (Ill.) was close behind in fourth at 2:08.38—also a PB. Maya Pearcy of Rocky Mountain (Mont.) rounded out the top five in 2:08.95, followed by another Saint Xavier runner, Alexandra Clarke, who ran 2:10.33 for sixth and a personal best. Fien Molenberg of Friends (Kan.) finished seventh in 2:12.76, and Ellen-Mary Kearney of Milligan (Tenn.) took eighth in 2:14.64.

400m hurdles

In the 400m hurdles, Hastings (Neb.) senior Jaida Rowe led the field with a winning time of 57.96 to score 10 points, narrowly edging Concordia (Neb.) senior Adrianna Rodencal, who finished second in 57.98 and set a new personal best . Life (Ga.) freshman Shevaughn Thomas took third in 58.49, also a personal best, while Saint Xavier (Ill.) senior Yanira Deana Paninka placed fourth in a PB 58.83. British Columbia sophomore Haley Martin followed in fifth at 58.99, and Central Methodist (Mo.) senior Shannon O’Neil earned sixth in another PB, 59.18. Ottawa (Kan.) senior JayOnna Perry was seventh in 1:01.28, and Central Methodist (Mo.) junior Allena Rowland rounded out the scoring in eighth at 1:01.46.

200m

In the women’s 200m (Heat 1) with a +1.7 m/s wind, Blessing Ogundiran of Warner led the field, winning in 23.66 to score 10 points. Tiyna Ridge (Friends, Kan.) followed in 23.86 for 8 points, with Roy’Janae Brown (Ottawa, Kan.) taking third in 24.01 for 6 points. Kyla Bradberry (Marian, Ind.) placed fourth in 24.11 for 5 points, and Abia Kante (Cumberlands, Ky.) was close behind in fifth at 24.20 for 4 points. Charity Jones (Madonna, Mich.) finished sixth in 24.28 to add 3 points, while Olga Gomez (Southeastern, Fla.) placed seventh in 27.29 for 2 points, and Nikiwe Mongwe (MidAmerica Nazarene, Kan.) rounded out the heat in 39.71 for 1 point.

5,000m

In the women’s 5,000m, Montreat (N.C.) sophomore Heather Murphy won in 16:37.41 to score 10 points, finishing well ahead of Cumberlands (Ky.) junior Alina Boshchuk, who was second in 17:16.20 and set a new season best for 8 points. Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) sophomore Sophia Noriega took third in 17:20.49 (6 points), followed by Southern Oregon freshman Alyssa Johnson in fourth at 17:23.28 (5 points). British Columbia senior Sarah MacGillivray placed fifth in 17:25.02 (4 points) just in front of Cumberlands freshman Patrober Jepchirchir (sixth, 17:25.10, 3 points), with Bellevue (Neb.) freshman Grace Steinmetz (17:27.52) and Taylor (Ind.) junior Malarie Pinwar (17:28.91) rounding out the scoring in seventh and eighth. British Columbia also added Elysse Fleming in ninth (17:34.73), while Oklahoma City freshmen Kenzi Readnour (10th, 17:44.64) and Keira Readnour (13th, 17:57.26) were among the notable finishers

4x400 Relay

In the men’s 4x400 relay, Life (Ga.) claimed the win in 3:41.72, a new season best, as S. Thomas, N. Gibson, C. Kelperis, and E. Delaville combined for 10 team points. British Columbia followed in 3:43.06 for second, posting a new season best behind the quartet of G. Katics, M. Cameron, M. Campbell, and H. Martin to earn eight points, while Marian (Ind.) took third in 3:43.83 with H. Reuter, C. Lange, J. Milosevic, and E. Edwards scoring six. Doane (Neb.) placed fourth in 3:45.19 for five points, narrowly ahead of Indiana Tech’s fifth-place 3:45.33—good for a new 2026 NAIA No. 7 season best and four points—while Concordia (Neb.) (3:47.36), Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) (3:47.98), and St. Thomas (Fla.) (3:50.46) rounded out the scoring places; Saint Mary (Kan.) finished ninth in 3:51.68.

Team Scores

The women’s outdoor track and field championship team race was paced by Cumberlands (Ky.), which topped the standings with 79 points, building its lead through consistent scoring across multiple events. Indiana Tech finished second with 49.2 points and St. Thomas (Fla.) took third at 49, with both teams piling up points through a mix of high finishes and depth that kept them scoring in several areas of the meet. Marian (Ind.) placed fourth with 44.2, while Voorhees (S.C.) rounded out the top five at 44, each benefiting from steady event-by-event contributions rather than relying on a single standout. Cornerstone (Mich.) was sixth with 39 and Central Methodist (Mo.) seventh with 33, continuing the trend of balanced scoring across the program. British Columbia took eighth with 31, and the final two spots in the top 10 were shared in a three-way tie at 26 points by Carroll (Mont.), Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio), and Life (Ga.), underscoring how crucial every point was—whether earned through finals appearances, relay placements, or multiple athletes contributing in different disciplines.

Awards

Outstanding Performer: Sonya Urbanowicz of British Columbia, after breaking the record in pole vault and winning her fourth title in the event.

Most Valuable Performer: Sydney Duncan of IU Kokomo (Ind.), who scored 30 points throughout the meet after completing a throws trifecta with titles in discus, hammer and shot put.
