Mariana de Carvalho Shines as NAIA Attacker of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mariana de Carvalho's recent showcase for Grand View (Iowa) led her to national recognition as NAIA Women's Volleyball Attacker of the Week. Hailing from Fortaleza, Brazil, the senior outside hitter amassed an impressive 65 kills, averaging 5.41 kills per set with a stunning hitting percentage of .483 in four matches last week.

Her performance was integral to Grand View's dominance, as they swept all four matches in straight sets while recording no more than four errors in a match.

The six rotation outside hit no less than five kills per set with a weekly high of 6 kills per set against Missouri Valley where she posted 18 kills and an attack percentage of .615.


Beyond her attacking capabilities, she contributed defensively with 25 digs over the week, showcasing her all-around game. Her nine service aces added another layer to her impressive stats, making her a formidable presence from the service line as well.

On September 9, against Haskell, she recorded 17 kills with a .500 hitting percentage, while also contributing seven digs and one service ace. Later that day, against Mission (Mo.), she added another 15 kills, 11 digs, and two aces to her tally.

De Carvalho's exceptional week was capped with her performance against Missouri Valley, where she not only led the team in kills but also contributed significantly in defense, with 10 digs for a double-double, along with her 18 kills and two block assists.
