Rodriguez Wrestles Up, Topples No. 8 Opponent to Earn Women's Wrestler of the Week Award
KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Cristelle Rodriguez, from Doane (Neb.), was ranked No. 1 in the 124 weight class, but wrestled up a weight class against Hastings (Neb.) and knocked off No. 8 Karissa Laz, a two-time NAIA All-American, to earn the NAIA Women's Wrestler of the Week honor.
Rodriguez's win by tech fall (10-0) snapped Laz's 10-match win streak and helped Doane defeat the No. 16 Broncos by a score of 33-13, in each team's first Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) dual.
Doane women's wrestling will return to action on Feb. 11 against Midland (Neb.).
This year, the GPAC will crown the inaugural GPAC regular-season champion on February 14, following the first women's wrestling GPAC Duals in Crete, Neb.
